Shri Hemkunt Sahib

The Hemkunt Sahib is situated near the Valley of flowers, at an altitude of 4,329 m above sea level. The holy lake Hemkund is associated with the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh, the founder of the Khalsa (meaning 'the pure') Panth. It is believed that the guru had meditated on the banks of this holy lake in one of his earlier births. A Gurdwara is located on the banks of this lake. This is a very holy pilgrim spot of the Sikhs.
Hemkund is located in India's northern state of Uttaranchal in the Garhwal region. As the name suggests, Hemkund is a lake in the Himalayas. There are many lakes in the Himalayas, but few are set in as dramatic a setting as Hemkund is. At an altitude of 4,329 m above sea level, which is several hundred meters above the tree line, the lake is set like a jewel in a crown of seven of the most picturesque snow peaks of the Himalayas. In this surrealistic landscape, made up mostly of rock and ice, there is no habitation-animal or human. The place is as if made to order for a man in search of absolute peace to meditate upon the absolute truth.

Amritsar

Amritsar is at the epicentre of the Sikh faith, for it is home to the Golden Temple, the holiest of Sikh shrines. For Sikhs it is both a place where Punjab's wealth is on full display, as well as an important pilgrimage. But it is not only Sikhs who come here. People from all faiths come to the Golden Temple, a tribute to the syncretist traditions of a faith whose holy book is a compilation of the writings of men of different faiths.

Outside the sacred precincts of the Golden Temple, you can enjoy this chaotic city while you gorge on Punjabi specialities like makki ki roti, sarson da saag and gur da halwa. It won't take you long to discover that food is an obsession for the locals, and it is rumoured that more desi ghee is consumed here than anywhere else in the world.

Shri Amarnath Yatra

You are standing on a high mountain road. The way has been cold and wet. Your muscles ache and your breathing is laboured. You keep walking for this is a walk you have chosen. And over the next rise, etched against the sky is the abode of Shiva. Here the eternal ascetic, the Lord of the Dance, the Destroyer, whispered the secret of immortality into the ear of his consort.

Here sages have come to ponder the cosmic, to meditate upon the divine. Here millions of devotees make their way every year, walking for 15 days or more for a spiritual encounter with the deity. Darshan at Amarnath is not easy; but what spiritual journey ever was? Terrorist attacks have added another dimension of risk to an arduous trek. But still they go to that imposing mountain, that quiet cave, that lingam of ice. Still they come, for the Lord calls

Mata Vaishno Devi

This place is about wish fulfillment. About a cave that lies 61 km North of Jammu, and the faith that surrounds it. People visiting Vaishnodevi undertake a tough yatra (pilgrimage) to reach the cave with the shrine of the 'Mata' (mother goddess) Vaishno Devi. She is represented in the three divine aspects of goddess-hood in Hindu mythology -- Mahakali (the fierce form of the goddess), Saraswati (goddess of knowledge) and Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth).

The gruelling yatra to the cave works as a kind of catharsis for the pilgrim soul. Believers -- and they are not just Hindus who come here but people of all faiths -- cover a 13 km trek on foot from Katra at the base of the Trikuta mountains to reach the holy cave.

Shri Badrinath Dham

Badrinath, the seat of the god Vishnu in his aspect of Badrinarayan, is the most important of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage. Situtaed in the hills of Himalaya, at the height of 10,248 feet above sea level. The route to Badrinath is one of the most arduous one due to the lofty hilly terrain, curves and cliffs amidst the most scenically beautiful place on the earth.

The temple's was built by the Kings of Garhwal about two centuries ago.The temple has three sections - Garbhagriha (Sanctum), The Darshan Mandap, and Sabha Mandap. The Garbhagriha (Sanctum) houses Lord Badri Narayan, Kuber (God of wealth), Narad Rishi, Uthavar, Nar & Narayan.

Kedarnath is amongst the holiest pilgrimages for the devout Hindu,located in the Uttaranchal state of India. Kedarnath, where a form of the Lord Shiva is venerated as one of the twelve jyotirling (linga of light), is one of the four sites in India's pilgrimage Char Dham. The most remote of the four Char Dham sites, Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, about 3584m above sea level near the head of river Mandakini, and is flanked by breathtaking snow-capped peaks.
Besides its affiliation with Shiva, Kedarnath is also believed to be the site of Shankaracharya's samadhi (achievement of beatified afterlife). The actual temple is an impressive stone edifice of unknown date. No specific family of pujaris supervises rituals at Kedarnath, which focus around veneration of the stone lingam that rests in the inner sanctum of the temple.

Gangotri, (Ganga' + 'Uttari' which means descended) the picturesque pilgrimage in the hinterlands of the Himalayas is the most sacred spot where Ganga , the stream of life, touched earth for the first time.
Situated at 99 km from Uttrarkashi, at height of 3140 meters.A shrine dedicated to the Goddess was built some 250 years ago by Amar Bahadur Thapa, the Gorkha Commander.

According to mythology, Goddess Ganga - the daughter of heaven, manifested herself in the form of a river to absolve the sins of King Bhagirath's predecessors, following his severe penance of several centuries. Lord Shiva received into his matted locks to minimise the immense impact of her fall. She came to be called Bhagirathi at her legendary source.

Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the goddess Yamuna, is one of the four sites in India's Char Dham pilgrimage. The temple of Yamunotri falls on the left bank and was originally constructed by Maharaj Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal.

The shrine of Yamunotri is one of the "four dhams" of Uttaranchal Yamunotri temple is Situated in the direction opposite to Gangotri and the road bifurcates and goes to Yamunotri from Dharasu, a place between Rishikesh - Uttarkashi.
